Mr. Chuck Cheng was invited to share his views and experience in IC design industry with Wen Wei Po, one of the Chinese newspapers in Hong Kong. The following is the translated summary of the interview.
The total sum of electronic products export in Hong Kong had reached 7000 billion HKD in 2006. The key component of electronic product is IC, this include Microcontroller (MCU)with a variety of peripherals, and System-on-Chip (SoC).
Every year China needs about 5000 billion HKD worth of ICs, though regrettably 90% of them are products made by foreign companies that are exported to China via Hong Kong.
Nevertheless, this also provide us an opportunity in which indigenous designed IC can be used to replace a portion of the aforementioned imports.
